Villy Lopman and Ramon Rask discuss legal issues related to renewable energy projects on Kuku Radio

RASK’s head of environment and planning Villy Lopman and head of energy Ramon Rask were guests on a new episode of the environmental programme “Ilmaparandaja” on Kuku Radio last weekend.

Joining host Mart Valner, Villy and Ramon talked at length about why so few new renewable energy plants have been built in Estonia to date, what the government could do or is already doing to simplify this process, and which recent European developments are affecting the construction of renewable energy plants.

Some background: at the end of September, the Government Office announced an audit aimed at accelerating the development of renewable energy. It seeks to reduce administrative procedures for renewable energy development projects from an average of 5 years to a maximum of 18 months.

Protracted and overcomplex administrative procedures have been seen as one of the main obstacles to investing in renewable energy and related infrastructure. An additional audit of the planning, environmental impact assessment and permit process is currently being conducted under the leadership of the Government Office’s green turn coordinator. The audit aims to speed up the implementation of renewable energy projects. RASK is helping the state to carry out a legal audit as part of this process.

The episode contains 40 minutes of informative content packed with insights. If you are interested in renewable energy, we recommend listening in.
